Hugs
“We need 4 hugs a day for survival.
We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance.
We need 12 hugs a day for growth.”
Virginia Satir
This quote from Family Therapist Virgina Satir highlights the importance of meeting our child's needs in the area of nurturing, bonding, and security. Hugs are also important for adults.
Hugs can work on so many levels. Hugs can help when we are sad, when we are in pain; when we are lost; when we feel confused; when we succeed, and when we fail. Hugs let us know we are valued. Hugs help us grow.
Sometimes we struggle to give a hug or receive a hug when it is needed. If this is a problem, therapy might be helpful.
